Questions a re-rate raises.

Timing
- How long after quitting smoking can I be re-rated?
- Most carriers will quote non-tobacco rates at twelve months clean, and a few reserve their best classes for two or three years. It is worth checking at twelve months even if you expect a no, because carriers disagree and the gap between a tobacco and non-tobacco premium is the largest single step there is.
- I lost weight. How long does it have to stay off?
- Roughly six months of stability is what most build charts want to see. What matters more than the amount lost is whether you crossed a carrier threshold — build charts move in steps, so a large loss that lands you in the same band changes nothing, and a small one that crosses a line can move a full class.
- My A1c came down. Is that enough on its own?
- Often, yes. An A1c reflects about three months, so carriers can act on it quickly. The thresholds vary a lot between carriers — the same reading can be a decline at one and a Standard offer at another.
Your existing policy
- Do I have to cancel my current policy to do this?
- No, and you should not. We never recommend canceling or lapsing coverage before a replacement policy has been issued and is in force. If the new pricing does not beat what you hold, you keep what you hold and nothing changes.
- Will my current carrier find out I am shopping?
- No. We do not notify your existing carrier, and nothing about the checkup touches your in-force policy.
- What if the answer is that I am already priced correctly?
- Then we tell you that and the conversation ends. It happens, and it is a legitimate outcome of the checkup.
Cost, data, and process
- What does the checkup cost?
- Nothing. We are paid a commission by the carrier when a policy is issued, and that is the only way we are paid. There is no fee to be quoted and no charge if you decide to stay put.
- What health data do you read, and when?
- Prescription history and recent lab work, obtained through ExamOne, a Quest Diagnostics company, and only after you sign the applicable HIPAA authorization. Nothing is pulled before you consent.
- Does an AI company see my medical records?
- No. The models that read your health information run on hardware we operate. Your record is not sent to a third-party AI service and is not used to train anything.
- Do I need a medical exam?
- Not to start, and often not at all. Accelerated and no-exam paths are available depending on your age, health, and the coverage amount. We will tell you up front which carriers on your shortlist require one.
- How long does the whole thing take?
- The intake is about three minutes. Quotes come back the same session. If you decide to apply, underwriting timelines are set by the carrier and typically run from a few days on accelerated paths to several weeks on fully underwritten ones.
- What is Mission Control Pro?
- The paid concierge tier with a dedicated advisor — $149/yr or $15/mo after the 12-month free Founding Crew period, which is open to everyone. The re-rate checkup itself does not require it.
